Over the years I have invested in a lot of fitness equipment for the home from weights right through to multi gyms. I have to admit one of the best bits of equipment I have purchased has to be this UMI Pull-Up Bar for the home in 2020.
I did purchase one many years ago, but it did not work very well. It kept sliding down the door and at times, just completely coming off due to my weight. So I decided just like everything improves over time so I am sure they have improved on Pull Up Bars for the home.
I decided to invest in the Umi Pull Up Bar to use for home pull workouts. It has been a great purchase and money well spent to be honest it has really helped me advance in my Calisthenics workouts over the last 18 months.
How Often do we Buy Something
We often buy fitness equipment to use a few times and never use it again. This year has seen fantastic growth in the sales of home use gym equipment, especially when we went into lock-down in February 2020. Everyone went Krazy for home gym equipment which left most products sold out and prices increasing due to the huge demand.
It was totally insane it was like everyone was turning their home into a gym. The question I want to ask now, which is several months later, is how many of us are still using the equipment that we bought.
When comes to achieving fitness results consistency is the key
When it comes to fitness-related results consistency is the key. Over the last 30 years, I have seen many family and friends join gyms or buy equipment. They were wanting to achieve certain results overnight, which let’s be honest is never going to happen so they eventually give up.
So before buying any fitness equipment or gym membership ask yourself are you willing to give yourself 6 to 12 months to see some results because trust me you will not get any results in a few weeks. Unless you are a fitness trainer/fanatic who has been training for many years it is near impossible to get results in few weeks.
Umi Pull-Up Bar
This pull-up bar is a simple design it can be used in between 2 walls or in between the doorway. I have been using it in my doorway and I just leave it in the doorway because it is high enough for anybody to walk in and out the room.
It can be removed after use and stored away or even moved to adjust the height so you can perform other exercises rather than just the pull-ups.
I have been using it every day, and I weight 68kg, and it has not moved. It has been absolutely brilliant; it is really helping me in advance within calisthenics movements.
No screws or drilling are required to put this in place, it only takes a matter of minutes to set up before you can start using it. It has soft PVC mats on each side that push against the wood in the door frame, which means it will not cause any major damage to your door frame.
Please beware that it can leave marks on the frame or paintwork due to keeping the bar fixed in place over time. Please also keep in mind that depending on the width of the door frame that you will be using decreases, the maximum weight it can handle.
It comes with removable foam handle grips that can be moved along the bar for better grip position as well as removed to have them washed every so often.
The bar has stainless steel safety locks on each side so when you have it in right place and tight you just close the safety looks so the bar stays locked. You can perform so many upper body exercises while performing your workout.
What exercises can be performed using the Umi Pull Up bar
Even though the name says pull-up you can actually perform so many exercises using this one bit of equipment. Some of the exercises I have performed when having the bar at top of the door frame are scapula pull-ups, pull-ups, chin-ups, hanging L-sit, L-sit pull-ups, negative pull-ups, cliff-hanger pull-ups, knee raises, leg raises, leg raise pull-ups, front lever plus front lever progression exercises.
When having the bar in the middle of the door frame, doing rows, incline press-ups. when having the bar at the lower part of the door frame you can incline press-ups, decline press-ups (using feet on the bar). I am sure there will be more but this is a list of some of the ones I have personally performed.
Can one bit of equipment help
You all must be wondering can a single bit of equipment help you get fitness results. Let me tell you that over the last 18 months of using this bar I have gained muscle mass as well as losing fat. This one bit of equipment combined with the different variations of press-ups and squats for the lower body can get you huge results.
You have to try it for yourself but keep in mind to achieve results for the long term consistency is the key. Also, go in with a long term plan because living a healthy and fit life does not mean 6 months, 12 months it means for the rest of your life.
This bar comes at a great price point and it can be used whenever you get time no need to plan a gym visit to get fit. It might turn out to be the best bit of equipment you purchase. Great to get started with your fitness journey without bursting the bank.
As you progress you can invest in other calisthenics equipment but to get started this is the only bit of equipment you will need to start strength training. You can train many different muscle groups using this one bit of equipment.
Here is a video of me using this pull-up bar and more videos coming soon.
